I have sage in my house and burn it regularly, when I began on a spiritual path I didn’t know sage was a useful spiritual tool. So, is sage spiritual? Yes, here’s why….
Sage is a small evergreen shrub that will grow almost anywhere and its roots originate from the Mediterranean. Its use as a spiritual tool is initially by Native Americans to cleanse the environment of negative energies and bad vibes.
– White Sage Smudge Stick
The type of sage you burn for spiritual use (in the photos) is called a White Sage Smudge Stick or Californian White Sage. The sage you find in your kitchen cupboard isn’t what you’re looking for here. In short if you set that on fire you will get a very different result!
The Latin word for sage salvia stems form the word heal. The burning of sage has been around for an age and sage smudging sticks are commonly used world-wide in all kinds of uses. Many cultures consider sage spiritual and has uses in many types of ceremonies and events. For instance, medicine ceremonies, blessings, births, deaths, weddings and moving in to a new home.
The main use of spiritual sage is to cleanse a person, place or likewise an object of bad energies. Spiritual sage is a plant medicine and as such is not easily measurable by the same standards as pharmaceutical medicine. Therefore ideally don’t go looking in a medical journal for the benefits of sage.
Sage effects you spiritually, emotionally and physically. Spiritual sage purifies your spirit and your mind. That is to say sage cleansing can be a metaphor for your life, or can be a meaningful connection tool whilst you meditate. Cleanse your space, cleanse your mind and heart, you get the idea!
On top of the spiritual cleansing that sage gives you it is also the subject of studies which show an ability to kill air born bacteria. Scientists observe in studies sage clearing up to 94 percent of bacteria from the air where it is applied. Sage can also cleanse the air of pollution, dust and mould spores.
– Sage Spiritual Healing
Spiritual sage can be highly healing. Whether because of its aroma, or effect on your mood (sage is very mildly psychoactive). Enhancing a spiritual process such as meditation, the reducing of stress or increasing awareness of your internal witness. The ritual of burning of sage for healing will rely on, as often is the case, your connection to your spiritual path and the intentions that are set.
Realiser is born so others can be in a realised state, a state of awaken. To be able to see the most obvious things having missed them for so many years. Subsequently I want to create something to serve as an example of how it could be. If only we might spend the time loving that we spend hating. You get the idea.
